Andy Newell Interview - From 4-Time Olympic Sprinter to Ultra Trail Runner
In this interview I sit down with local legend Andy Newell of Shaftsbury, Vermont, to talk about his transition from 16 years on the US Ski Team, and four Olympics to coaching and ultra-distance trail racing. We cover many topics related to training, injury, goal setting and more.

    You are wrong, the smart people, me included, thought about it and with in 10 second solved it. never thought it is 1$. never. its a X + X + 1 = 1.5 , so immediately I understood it is 0.25 . took me to do in my head about 7-10 second. that's how smart intelligent people solve it. with math. you are wrong and miss leading the audience thinking people are dumb. no they are not, some of them really are smart and intelligent, and know math very good.

    Stopped video around 0:13 ...lol...it's not 50 cents...it's 1 dollar more than the cup, I mean...but they still add up to 1.50...so you get that 1.25, rather...I mean...for the water, I mean...so the cup is 1.25, the water is 0.25 cents, etc...I mean, lol, saying the water costs 1.00 would only be 50 cents more than the water, etc...and one can solve it with algebra, etc, a+b=1.5, a=b + 1, so that b+1+b=1.5 => 2b = 0.5, b=0.25, etc, so then a=0.25+1=1.25...well, I suppose I've been exposed to the problem before, lol, but still...it's not like I had it memorized...

    Just 3.5 years behind you in age and vegetarian since I was 18, eliminated all but accidental animal-source food about 7 years ago. I mostly run trail ultras now and don't do much strength training. I started daily creatine monohydrate supplementation about a year ago (I use Thorne because I am confident in the quality and the price premium is not bad). I noticed all of the same changes you have mentioned here. I did have some sleep disturbance in the first week (I did not do a "loading phase," just 5g per day). After that it was improved recovery during (e.g. between intervals) and after training. And if I even think about exerting myself I seem to gain mass in the relevant muscles. Regarding training, I really think you are doing it in an incredibly powerful and effective way. Thank you for sharing and continuing to develop this approach! I hope that at some point your demons shut up and go away. Or you convert them and they start to help you out - folding laundry or cleaning the bathroom maybe? Keep being you - you are enough!

    • @runningraw
      @runningraw 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the data Chris! What got you to start taking creatine? How do you take it? I'm putting it in a smoothie. It's been so much fun just playing around with training, without any sense of a plan, and just doing what my body seems to want to do. The results are much better than any plan I've ever been on.

    • @christopherbrand5360
      @christopherbrand5360 3 місяці тому

      @@runningraw I take the creatine first thing in the morning in 12-16oz of water, usually with a teaspoon of amla (Indian gooseberry) powder. The amla is an acquired taste (to put it mildly) but it has a whole lot of vitamin C and some other vitamins and minerals. Much less evidence for the benefits of amla than creatine, but there is some showing improvement in blood sugar control.
